Surface Coatings vs Gridshield; COST : Gridshield is 35% to 65% less than any surface coating EMC shielding. The process is completed at the press – No secondary Operations. Surface coating requires many operations which can produce a number of quality and cost problems. Not to mention the lower shielding effectiveness. A great example is replacing a sheet metal case which requires up to 6 stampings , a number of tools , screws (many) , safety problems with cuts, damaged parts do to handling all with limited design options.
